About the Activity
These activities called Project BU-LA-GA referring on the storytelling, games and workshops that my team was conducted. These personal interactions are meaningful because they are able to interact with one another, carry on conversations, and hear significant rules being modeled involving sentence structure.
Each lesson within the unit will focus on a particular aspect or skill set specially in storytelling. We divided our participants into 2 groups.
Group 1 listened to “Ang Barumbadong Bus” - This is a wonderful book that gives lessons to children about the importance of courtesy and discipline, as well as consideration for others. “ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME” Rotary Club of Greater Midtown Cubao 6
Group 2 listened to “Si Langgam at Si Tipaklong” – This is a great story that gives lessons to children to be industrious and thrifty avoid the attitude of being lazy. Emphasizing the tagalog saying “Pag may isinuksok, may madudukot”.
The skills learned in this unit will help to develop the children’s oral language, which is necessary to become successful academic learners in the classroom. All of them became so attentive in participating question and answer portion of storytelling. They are so enthusiastic in sharing their thoughts and experience - relating to their life to the story.
We also played the famous Jollibee’s “THE BOAT is SINKING”. The purpose of this game is 3F’s – Fun, Fitness and Friends. This aims to build friendship with one another as they do not know each other and most of them came from different area of Calumpit. We also want to teach them to improve coordination, balance and strength, following directions and rules, being attentive and most specially teaching them to be a good sport.
Last but not the least are the Simple Workshops that we prepared for them. These are Bookmark Making and Essay Writing. We divided them into 2 groups; children below 6 will go to Bookmark Making and children 7 and up will go to Essay Writing. Bookmark making aims to teach young children to give importance of reading books and differentiate the significance of this compared in using computers and other technology equipment. We showed them some examples on how they can use the bookmarks. We also believe that if they are one who creates their own bookmark, they will be inspired because it is the fruit of their expertise and creativity. Essay writing is about writing a message to the most important person in their life.
